I. Purpose:

To define the expectations and requirements, of the person serving as a sonographer performing echocardiograms, at WMH. The Job description or summary Is as follows:

Under the supervision of the Medical Director and Department Director, the sonographer is responsible for providing adult (1 a years and up) Echocardiograrns and Cardiac Stress Testing in accordance with specific physician orders, the protocol for performing the procedure and the department policies and procedures.

II. Policy:

All individuals performing echocardiograms at WMH shall be competent in the following:

• Knowledge of the anatomy of the heart, congenital defects, cardiac physiology, cardiac evaluation methods and principles of cardiac hemodynamics.
• Knowledge of the current equipment used- (GE Vivid S70 System).
• Knowledge of protocol for performing a cardiac ultrasound
• Knowledge of measuring echocardiograms at the reading station.
• Sort out reports and make sure each gets to the correct place. (i.e., referring physician, interpreting physician, EMR etc.)

All individuals will be expected to participate in performance improvement activities and CQI team when discussion pertains to departmental concerns, workflow, and mission, etc.

III. Requirements:
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Complete annual education requirements.

• Maintain regulatory requirements.

• Report to work on time and as scheduled, complete work within designated time

•Stay up-to-date with industry matters by reading/attending educational presentations.

• Attend committee, CQI and management meetings when appropriate.

• Wear identification while on duty.

• Is aware of and adheres to all HIPPA privacy rules as stated per hospital policy

IV. REGULATORY REQUIREMENT:

    • Be eligible to take the adult Echocardiogram registry exam.
    • Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Echocardiography, Respiratory Therapy or Radiology.
    • Current state Echocardiogram Technician, Respiratory Therapist or Radiologic Technologist Licensure.

    V. LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    • Ability. to read and communicate effectively in English.
    • Knowledge of additional languages preferred.
    • Strong written and verbal skills.

    VI. SKILLS:

    • Basic computer knowledge

    • Ability to use echo/ultrasound and EKG machines

    VII. DUTIES:

    Employees will be required to be readily available to work during any weather related incidents or other natural disasters and/or any emergency situations that may arise.
    Reports all non-medical staff issues to administration as necessary.
